In the Russian city of Kaluga, the plant of the German car tire manufacturer Continental has temporarily resumed production, reports Reuters with reference to the company's statement.
The company said it had resumed operations for fear of "criminal consequences" in the event of default.
"Our employees and managers in Russia will face serious criminal consequences if we refrain from meeting local demand," the company said.
Reuters, citing its own sources, said Russian prosecutors had warned some Western companies that their workers could face arrest if they shut down production of basic necessities.
